Description

Check out Perch Lake with the Dam right below, or do some pan fishing in the La Crosse River. Lake Neshonoc is only a short drive away in West Salem which offers some great opportunities all year round. Angelo Pond is a 39 acre lake located in Monroe County. It has a maximum depth of 8 feet with panfish, largemouth bass, and trout. Upper Sparta Pond is a 8 acre lake located in Monroe County. Fish include panfish, largemouth bass, northern pike and trout. The Mississippi River is also a short 25 minute drive away towards La Crosse. Roaming these waters are large and smallmouth bass, trout, panfish, there are plenty of opportunities in the area.

An Interactive haunted house experience with proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Sparta. Each fall, nearly 6000 people “survive” our haunted house! From year to year, dedicated volunteers ensure the scares are tantalizing and spooky. This year is no exception!

The House of Shadows opens its doors this year on October 5th.
It will be open on Fridays and Saturdays through October and Halloween Night.
The Haunting takes place in a 19th century State Child Center Infirmary.
Enter if you dare!

The following tickets are available for the House of Shadows.
All money raised goes to your local Boys & Girls Club of Sparta, which serves hundreds of area youth each year!

Not so Scary Cost: $6.00 Times: Starts at 6:00pm, Ends at 7:00pm Description: Starting at 6:00, ending at 7:00, we run the house in “Not So Scary” mode. You will be provided a flashlight, and the characters will not try to scare you.

Very Scary Cost: $10.00 Times: Starts approximate at 7:00pm, tickets are sold until 10:00pm. House runs until all guests are through. Description: We dare you to try this! The rooms are dark. Ghoulish creatures jump out from behind every corner! While your group waits its turn, there is a tent area available. You may purchase concessions, enjoy watching scary movies, and listen to the sounds emanating from the house. Hopefully, you’ll make it out…

Zoraida Cordova will be visiting Sparta, WI on Friday, October 5 at 7:30pm at Meadowview Middle School to discuss her writing process and the creation of her Brooklyn Brujas book series.  Cordova’s presentation will delve into her inspiration for Labyrinth Lost, including the real world Mexican and Afro-Caribbean cultures she drew on.  The presentation will conclude with a Q & A session, followed by a book signing.  Cordova’s visit is sponsored in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Tickets will be available for $15 on the day of the Sparta Wine Walk Thursday October 11th in person at the Quilt Corner beginning at 10:00 AM and here online beginning at 12:00 AM on Thursday October 11th.

The Sparta Wine Walk is in partnership with the Sparta Rotary Club. Part of the proceeds will benefit Sparta Youth Hockey Association (SYHA). $1 of each ticket goes to the SYHA.
HOW IT WORKS:

  • Starting at 4:30 p.m. October 11, check-in at the Quilt Corner located at 219 North Water Street in Sparta Wisconsin.
  • Show your ticket and ID to receive a wrist band & map of participating businesses with punches good for fifteen 1 oz wine samples.
  • We have 14 stops serving wine samples on the Sparta Wine Walk. Shop in historic Sparta Wisconsin and enjoy appetizers, non-alcoholic drinks and local Wisconsin wines from Branches Winery – WestbyDNA Vintners and Vernon Vineyards Winery & Tasting Room!
  • The first 200 people to visit Grantie Anne’s Studio receive a commemorative etched wine glass.
  • Help support the Sparta Youth Hockey Association by participating in a “Puck Hunt” for $5 which goes directly to the SYHA. Find hockey pucks “hidden” in plain sight at Sparta businesses to win prizes and “Sparta Bucks.”
  • Proceeds from the Sparta Wine Walk will benefit a Sparta Holiday Open House Saturday December 8th and a Girlfriend Weekend in February.

What if I don’t drink wine?
You don’t need to drink wine to enjoy the Sparta Wine Walk! Come for the super awesome shopping deals and help support the Sparta Youth Hockey Association.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
YES, you should bring your printed ticket with you to the event.

Do I need to have my ID with me?
YES, you will need to show your ID to receive a wristband.

May I pick up wristbands for other people?
You may *NOT* pick up wristbands for other people. Wristbands will be secured to the participant’s wrist AT THE TIME of CHECK IN.

What is the refund policy?
This is a Rain or Shine event. Tickets are non-refundable, but are transferable by updating the name on your ticket in Eventbrite. The name on the ticket doesn’t match the attendee. Is that okay? No. Please update the name on the ticket to match the attendee by logging in to your Eventbrite account and updating it to match.

TIPS:

  • Bring your ID.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, you’ll be walking outdoors between locations.
  • Cross the street at crosswalks!
  • Please do not ask participating businesses to over pour or give you an extra swig.

Event Details

On your mark, get set, have fun! Join us on Saturday, October 13 for the annual 1st Community Credit Union Sparta Half Marathon/5k run. Both the Half Marathon and 5K course are run on the scenic Sparta-Elroy bike trail. Racers will enjoy the colorful scenery while running on a beautiful fall morning. This race is part of Sparta’s Fall Fest celebration.
All racers receive a goody bag and t-shirt. Half Marathon finishers will also receive a medal. The event starts and ends at the Sparta Chamber of Commerce. This is a great event for all ages and abilities.
